Growing humanoids on data from convenience-store shelf stocking
Transition — moving from teleoperated stocking robots to autonomous humanoids
- In June 2026 it was selected for the Physical AI Fellowship 2026 of AWS, NVIDIA and MassRobotics, as one of nine companies worldwide and the first from Japan. Using a single VLA model, its humanoid picked plastic bottles, onigiri rice balls and snacks with both arms and bagged them in a convenience store without teleoperation.
- In September 2026 it opened a new position for a VP of logistics robot system applications.
- Founded in 2017 in Tokyo, the company has supplied its AI robot TX SCARA to FamilyMart stores across Japan and is piloting its beverage-stocking robot TX Ghost at some 7-Eleven stores in Tokyo.
Decisions within a year
- Joint humanoid development with Seven-Eleven Japan: in September 2025 the two agreed to jointly develop and validate Astra, a humanoid with a VLA foundation model, with deployment in 7-Eleven stores targeted for 2029. The existing stocking robot Ghost is used to collect large-scale training data.
- Robot motion data generation service: in August 2025 it announced Motion Data Factory, a service that uses multi-joint robots to create and sell customized motion datasets, with full launch set for January 2026. It targets robot startups, robot manufacturers, and universities and research institutes in Japan, the US and Europe.
- Joining the NVIDIA Cosmos Coalition: on July 16, 2026 it joined after being selected as Japan's representative physical AI company. It said it would combine real operating data gathered in commercial stores with Cosmos synthetic data to speed up development of its own robot foundation model.
People they will look for
- VLA and robot learning engineers — the company itself says raising the speed and generalization of autonomous manipulation is the key to putting Astra into stores
- Robot hardware and motor control engineers — as it develops humanoid bodies and stocking robots together, it is looking for many people with motor control, CAN and firmware experience
- Logistics robot system application engineers — as it extends from store shelves to logistics sites, it needs people to handle on-site system integration (based in Tokyo)
For hiring managers
Engineers who have worked with both VLA models and real robot data are also sought by the robotics teams of large Korean companies and the Korean offices of global robot companies. All hiring is for Tokyo, so experienced Korean candidates willing to work in Japan must be found separately.
For job seekers
Experience running robots in retail or logistics settings, collecting data and training manipulation models on that data is what this company values most right now. Working in Tokyo is a prerequisite.
