An automotive MCU company shifting its weight toward AI data center power semiconductors
Restructuring — selling its timing business and reorganizing around GaN, data center power and software
- Revenue (IFRS) for the second quarter of 2026 (April–June) was JPY 418.4 billion, up 28.5% from JPY 325.5 billion a year earlier, and operating income was JPY 102.1 billion, about 2.6 times the JPY 39.8 billion of a year earlier. First-half revenue was JPY 798.7 billion and operating income was JPY 192.7 billion.
- Full-year 2025 revenue (IFRS) was JPY 1.3212 trillion and operating income was JPY 201.2 billion.
- According to HR data published by the company, it had 21,915 employees worldwide in 2025, 796 fewer than the 22,711 in 2024.
Decisions within a year
- Sale of the timing business In February 2026 Renesas agreed to sell its clock and timing business to SiTime of the US for USD 1.5 billion in cash and about 4.13 million SiTime shares. About 75% of the business's revenue comes from AI data centers and communications, and the deal is expected to close by the end of 2026.
- Software holding company In October 2026 Renesas said it will establish Re-Alt Software Holdings, a holding company for its software and digitalization businesses, in Delaware, US, in mid-October.
- AI data center power In September and October 2026 it released 650V GaN products for megawatt-class AI data centers and low-voltage GaN FETs for AI data centers and robots, and in October launched a flagship RX MCU using a 22nm process and MRAM.
People they will look for
- Automotive MCU and SoC field technical support (FAE) engineers — new products such as the 22nm MRAM MCU need to be designed into Korean automakers' and automotive electronics customers' products
- Power semiconductor (GaN) application engineers — GaN products for AI data centers and robots need to be proposed to and supported for Korean server and power supply customers
- Embedded software and development tool engineers — with software and digitalization grouped under a separate holding company, sales of chips bundled with development tools are growing
For hiring managers
Automotive MCU and power semiconductor application talent is sought by the Korean subsidiaries of global semiconductor companies and Korean automotive chip fabless companies. With the organization being reshaped through divestment and restructuring, the right order is to first secure customer-facing staff for the core businesses that remain.
For job seekers
FAE experience designing MCUs or power semiconductors into Korean automakers' and automotive electronics customers' products from the design stage is what this company values most right now. The Korean subsidiary in Gangnam, Seoul operates as a sales office.
