Micron announces up to $3 billion of U.S. semiconductor supply-chain investment
Micron announced plans to invest up to $3 billion in the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, including $500 million of strategic financing for GlobalWafers America 300 mm wafer manufacturing in Texas.
Why it matters
The plan is aimed at securing domestic input-material supply and longer-term wafer availability for Micron's manufacturing footprint, but the up-to-$3-billion amount is a planned program and the proposed GlobalWafers transaction remains subject to definitive agreements, approvals and closing conditions.
