GlobalFoundries signs an LOI for a $300 million CHIPS R&D silicon-photonics award
GlobalFoundries announced a letter of intent with the U.S. Department of Commerce for an expected $300 million award supporting next-generation silicon photonics, optical materials and advanced packaging.
Why it matters
The LOI would add public R&D funding to GF's U.S.-based silicon-photonics development path, but the $300 million was an expected award under a letter of intent rather than completed funding or already deployed manufacturing capacity.
