BANSEOG OUTLOOK

At Rainbow Robotics, researchers always buy the human-shaped robot first

In 2011, the year it was founded, Rainbow Robotics exported HUBO II to MIT and others; it sent HUBO to Google in 2013 and to the US Naval Research Laboratory in 2015. The mobile dual-arm RB-Y1 it released in 2024 also went mainly to universities and labs, and companies such as Amazon and Microsoft were reported to have taken it for research. Factories, meanwhile, first received its collaborative robots, launched in 2019. Banseog reads this as a company habit: sell a human-shaped body first to people who can fix it, refine it, then send it to the factory. The next buyer is the person responsible for a production line. Samsung Electronics' purchases reached about 5.68 billion won in the first half of 2026, nearly triple a year earlier, and an industrial successor has been in preparation. That is why Banseog sees removing, to factory standards, the inconveniences researchers put up with as the next talent challenge.

Banseog analysis
The next company challengeTurn robots that researchers repaired for themselves into products that keep working in places where a line cannot stop, while protecting the open ways of working that research customers want.
Questions before joining
  1. Is the person using this product a researcher who writes code, or a worker responsible for a line?
  2. When research customers and factory customers want different things, who decides and how?
  3. Do Samsung site demands go into dedicated development or into shared product standards?
The industrial successorErasing the lab's way of working

In 2025 the company said it was preparing the industrial RB-Y2 and planned safety certification for the collaborative robot interface. Turning settings researchers adjusted themselves into something site workers can use may become important.

Samsung sites growA demanding first factory customer

Samsung Electronics is reported to be using collaborative, dual-arm and mobile robots at its production and logistics sites. Deciding which of these site demands become shared product standards may grow as work.

Work closer to human handsProductizing the handling of objects

The company is reported to be developing dexterous hands and actuators. Deciding which tests will promise how well a human-shaped body really handles objects may become important. These are conditional stages, not confirmed dates or hiring plans.

FUTURE TALENT SHIFT

How responsibilities may expand

Follow the responsibility that runs from a robot researchers refined to one that does not stop in a factory. Check individual postings for actual duties and qualifications.

Banseog analysis
Robot control
Building new motions→Also designing safe motion ranges and recovery steps that keep a site running
Robot AI
Succeeding in demos in a research setting→Checking the same success rate when factory parts and lighting change
Mechanical and actuator design
Meeting performance targets→Designing for long life and easy repair
Safety and certification
Obtaining product certification→Judging the risk of work beside people from early development
Field service
Answering customers and repairing→Sorting field faults and passing them on as a basis for product change
Business development
Serving research customers→Sorting out by customer how research use differs from factory sale terms

CAREER LENS

Experience keeping something from the lab running in the field

Beyond making it work the first time, look for times you kept it running where no one was on hand to fix it. Adjacent experience suggests connections, not eligibility or a personal-fit verdict.

Experience to show in your career history

✓

Redesigning a prototype to fit site working conditions

✓

Finding and removing fault causes in long-run tests

✓

Personally handling robot safety certification or risk assessment

✓

Validating a demo AI model against real process success rates

✓

Refining the manuals and development tools of a research product

✓

Turning production site demands into product improvements

Where adjacent experience can lead

Semiconductor equipment field support

Root-cause work that keeps equipment from stopping can carry into factory rollout.

Factory automation

Handling position and safety conditions inside a line is the connection.

Auto parts quality

Life testing and supplier quality can connect to production standards.

Industrial vision

Holding recognition performance through changes in site lighting and parts.

Logistics automation

Installing and running mobile robots can lead to field application.

University and lab robotics research

Knowing how researchers use robots can lead to research products.

Questions before joining

  1. Is the person using this product a researcher who writes code, or a worker responsible for a line?
  2. When research customers and factory customers want different things, who decides and how?
  3. Do Samsung site demands go into dedicated development or into shared product standards?
  4. Which team sorts field faults, and how do they reach design?
  5. Which product family does this role cover, and is it based in Sejong, Pangyo or Daejeon?

WATCH NEXT

How to test this outlook

If RB-Y2 sells to factories first without passing through the research market, read that as a change in the researchers-first order and revise this reading.

Banseog analysis
01Is the first customer of the industrial RB-Y2 a factory or a research body?
02Are production site deployments beyond Samsung made public?
03Does collaborative robot safety certification carry over to dual-arm robots?
04Do field reliability or service roles appear in job postings?
05When a new body arrives, are its first buyers researchers again?
