Costco Korea — a warehouse store expanding into the Honam region

Where it stands now
Store expansion — opening its first stores in Honam and South Jeolla on the back of revenue in the KRW 7 trillion range

Revenue for fiscal year 2025 (September 2024 to August 2025) rose 12.1% to about KRW 7.322 trillion, and operating profit rose 16.5% to about KRW 254.5 billion.

Three decisions within a year
  1. Iksan store: the first store in the Honam region, with construction starting at the end of this year and opening targeted for November 2027.
  2. Iksan community plan: the company completed community-benefit consultations with Iksan City and pledged to hire more Iksan residents as permanent employees and to support listings of local farm produce.
  3. Suncheon store: an investment agreement was signed with South Jeolla Province and Suncheon City in September 2025, and the land purchase contract was completed in April 2026. As the first store in Gwangju and South Jeolla, it is targeted to open in 2028.
Three people it will look for
  1. New store opening lead — two stores, Iksan (November 2027) and Suncheon (2028), have to be taken from groundbreaking to opening
  2. Store operations and HR manager — having pledged to hire local residents as permanent staff, the company needs someone to handle large-scale hiring and training before opening
  3. Government relations and community partnership lead — each opening has to be preceded by consultations with local governments and small businesses
For HR
Warehouse store operators are vying with each other for new store managers. With the Iksan opening in November 2027, store leaders need to be secured now, around the start of construction.
For job seekers
Experience opening a large retail store from scratch, and a track record of setting up hiring and operations in a new regional market, are worth the most right now.
