SSG.COM — an online mall splitting in two to focus on grocery shopping
- Where it stands now
- Restructuring — separating fashion and beauty and concentrating on grocery and fast delivery
Sales in 2025 fell to KRW 1.3471 trillion.
Grocery sales in July 2026 rose 12% from a year earlier, and sales of SSG daytime delivery, which uses E-mart stores, rose about 30% over the same period.
According to Korea's National Pension Service public workplace data, the company had 2,344 people on the pension register in August 2026, 12 (0.5%) more than in October 2025, almost the same level. Over that period 805 people joined and 815 left, a high turnover of staff.
- Three decisions within a year
- Spin-off: it will separate the fashion, beauty and lifestyle divisions into a newly established Shinsegae Mall Co. (tentative name), while the remaining SSG.COM focuses on grocery-led online shopping. The split date is December 1, 2026, with the split plan scheduled for approval at an extraordinary shareholders' meeting at the end of October.
- CEO change: in the Shinsegae Group's 2027 regular executive appointments on October 23, 2026, Kim Hong-geuk was named co-CEO of E-mart and concurrently CEO of SSG.COM. The aim is to bring E-mart's merchandise planning, buying and store operations capabilities into SSG.COM's online business.
- Faster delivery: its instant delivery service 'Baro Quick' runs from 90 E-mart stores nationwide, and two-hour delivery is planned to expand to 33 stores in October and 55 stores by the end of the year.
- Three people it will look for
- Grocery and fresh food MD — the remaining company's centre is shifting to grocery shopping and must be tied to E-mart's buying capability
- Quick commerce and last-mile operations manager — Baro Quick and two-hour delivery stores must be added quickly within the year
- Platform integration and product manager — Shinsegae Mall products must continue to appear in the SSG.COM app after the split
- For HR
- Grocery MD and quick commerce operations staff are sought by other large hypermarkets' online teams and quick commerce companies, who vie for the same people. Around December, when the split and the new CEO structure begin, is a good time to redraw key positions.
- For job seekers
- Experience as an online fresh food MD, in store-based instant delivery operations, or in system integration after a corporate split is worth the most at this company right now.
