CJ CheilJedang — Shifting its weight to overseas food and bio
- Where it stands now
- Reorganization — restructuring overseas production and the bio business amid domestic cost pressure
In Q2 2026, revenue excluding CJ Logistics was KRW 4.195 trillion (+10.2%) and operating profit KRW 161.9 billion (−18.4%).
Q2 overseas food revenue of KRW 1.5072 trillion (+10.1%) exceeded domestic food revenue of KRW 1.3369 trillion (+1.4%). By region, Europe grew 19% and Asia-Pacific 21%.
On Korea's National Pension Service public workplace data, 7,936 people were on the pension register in August 2026. That is 423 fewer (5.1%) than in October 2025 as staffing is adjusted; in the same period 944 people joined and 1,410 left.
- Three decisions within a year
- US feed amino acid joint venture: in October 2026 it signed an investment agreement with ADM of the US. CJ holds 63% and ADM 37%, and both companies contribute their US and Brazil production facilities and sales organizations in kind. Merger approval procedures remain.
- Sioux Falls, South Dakota plant: the largest Asian food plant in North America, targeted for completion at the end of 2027. It responds to growing demand for bibigo dumplings.
- Strengthening fair trade compliance: in October 2026 it announced mandatory reporting of contacts with companies in the same industry, expanded compliance training for all employees, and the introduction of an internal reporting system.
- Three people it will look for
- Production and engineering leaders for the new US plant — someone to prepare the Sioux Falls plant for operation and run the North American production network
- Bio joint venture integration and finance — someone to handle the joint venture's capital contributions, approval procedures and integration work
- Fair trade and compliance specialists — someone to build and run the new reporting system and internal review procedures
- For HR
- For US plant staff it competes with large local food companies, and for compliance staff with food and materials companies, for the same people. With domestic staffing being adjusted, it makes sense to hire first for overseas and specialist roles that are hard to fill through internal reassignment.
- For job seekers
- Experience starting up a US food plant, integrating an overseas joint venture, or in fair trade compliance is worth the most at this company right now.
