IKEA Korea — stepping out of its big stores and into city centres

Where it stands now
Channel restructuring — widening touchpoints from large suburban stores to city-centre stores and online

Sales for fiscal year 2025 (September 2024 to August 2025) were KRW 639.3 billion, up 2.2% from a year earlier, and operating profit was KRW 10.9 billion. Online and offline visitors numbered about 62 million (+7.2%).

Online sales grew from around KRW 5 billion in 2019 to close to KRW 200 billion.

According to Korea's National Pension Service public workplace data, the company had 1,593 people on the pension register in August 2026, 8 (0.5%) fewer than in October 2025, almost the same level. Over that period 250 people joined and 252 left.

Three decisions within a year
  1. City-centre store openings: it opened in turn at Lotte Mall Gwangju in November 2025, Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo on July 23, 2026 (about 600 m²) and the 8th floor of Shinsegae Department Store Daegu on September 17 (about 1,000 m², about 900 items), and plans to widen city-centre stores as far as Daejeon by 2027. The Daegu store hired about 20 new staff together with the local employment centre.
  2. Revamped delivery and pickup: in April 2026 it launched 'arrives tomorrow' delivery for small furniture, in-store pickup for online and phone orders, and a service that lets customers choose delivery time and cost.
  3. Wider interior design services: each city-centre store has interior consultation, and it is gradually widening 60-minute free consultations, a home styling service (KRW 80,000 for members) and custom kitchen remodelling through partner firms.
Three people it will look for
  1. City-centre store opening and operations manager — within a year it has opened small stores one after another in Gwangju, Songdo and Daegu, with Daejeon next
  2. E-commerce and last-mile logistics — online sales are approaching KRW 200 billion and 'arrives tomorrow' delivery has begun
  3. Interior designer and kitchen remodelling project manager — consultation and remodelling services must be widened store by store
For HR
Store operations and last-mile logistics staff are people that large retailers, living and furniture companies and e-commerce companies are all looking for. It is best to secure regional store leaders ahead of the next city-centre openings, such as Daejeon.
For job seekers
Experience opening small stores inside shopping malls or department stores, and experience in furniture delivery and installation or interior consultation, are worth the most at this company right now.
