UNIQLO — reshaping itself around large stores

Where it stands now
Reorganization — revenue has moved past recovery, and stores are being made larger and new

Revenue for fiscal year 2025 (September 2024 to August 2025) rose 27.6% from the previous year to KRW 1.3524 trillion, and operating profit rose 81.6% to KRW 270.4 billion.

The Myeongdong Global Flagship Store, opened on May 22, 2026, has three above-ground floors and a total floor area of 3,254.8 m², the largest in Korea.

According to Korea's National Pension Service public workplace data, the number of people on the pension register was 4,134 in August 2026, down 472 (13.3%) from October 2025. Store staff come and go frequently.

Three decisions within a year
  1. Myeongdong Global Flagship: opened on May 22, 2026 with three above-ground floors and 3,254.8 m², adding clothing alteration and embroidery services. It is the only store in Korea to carry the 'Global Flagship' name.
  2. Store expansion and renovation: on October 2, 2026 the company opened a new store at Lotte Mall Uiwang, and after 17 years enlarged its Hyundai Department Store Mokdong store, opened in 2009, to about 1.9 times its former size (1,219.8 m²). Fitting rooms were increased from 7 to 22 and checkout counters from 4 to 14, and same-day in-store pickup for online orders was added.
  3. Open recruitment of store manager candidates: from September 7 to 28, 2026 the company ran its entry-level open recruitment (UMC). After training, recruits learn store, merchandise, profit-and-loss and personnel management before taking charge as store managers, with a starting salary of about KRW 53 million including bonuses.
Three people it will look for
  1. Store manager and supervisor — as large and flagship stores increase, people are needed to manage both store profit and loss and staff.
  2. Store development and VMD — new openings and the expansion and renovation of existing stores are going on at the same time.
  3. Omnichannel and store operations planning — services linking online and stores, such as same-day in-store pickup of online orders, are being widened.
For HR
Managers and supervisors for large stores are sought by department stores, SPA brands and large retailers alike. Now, with second-half openings and renovations continuing, is the time to secure first the middle managers who will lead the new open-recruitment hires.
For job seekers
Store operations experience of opening or renovating a large store while being responsible for both sales and staff is worth the most at this company right now.
